1928 Election - Address - "The Group"

Avertisement in Stroud Journal March 1928

Stroud Urban District Council Election

Polling Day Monday April 2nd

Ladies and Gentlemen

Three years ago the whole of the eleven candidates comprising our group were elected. On this occasion we have Ten Candidates, and we again ask you to accord us your confidence, and to vote solidly in our favour.

There are necessarily several changes in the personnel of our group, and several new candidates are included, but we think ratepayers will agree that one and all are fully competant to represent them, and that if elected the best interests of the town will be served by them.

We stated three years ago that it would be our endeaavour to study the interests of ratepayers and to maintain our policy of Efficiency with Economy. We claim to have upheld this polic and notwithstanding numerous street improvement, more effective lighting, a progressive housing policy, &c. We have succeeded in keeping the General Rate down to the same level of three years ago.

The queston of Water Supply has exercised our minds for some time, and we hope that during the present year the results of the Inquiry which is being undertaken by the Council will result in a better and more abundant supply being made available. It will be our aim to secure for Stroud a constant and pure supply of water and thus remove the inconvenience resulting from a partial suppl.

We ask you to vote solidly for the whole of the names on the enclosed card, and would emphasise the faact that the group system, whilst ensuring sound representation, does not restrict in any freedom of action within the Council.

We have the honour to be,

Ladies and Gentlemen

Yours faithfully

DUDBRIDGE, JOHN STEPHEN

GODSELL KENNETH BRUCE

HOOPER ERNEST FREDK.
